Jordan Harbour Marina sits on a sheltered, almost land-locked bay on the south shore of Lake Ontario, eight miles east of Grimsby and five west of Port Dalhousie. This page covers launching here: the ramp, the harbour, what the water does under you, and what the fishing is like.

The ramp at Jordan Harbour Marina

The marina has a double-wide concrete launch ramp with room to turn and park a trailer. It opens straight into the protected basin rather than onto open lake, so you are not fighting a chop while you are still on the trailer. Trailer storage is available for the season.

For ramp fees, hours and trailer parking, call the marina on 905-562-7888.

Depths and getting in

Depth in the entrance channel is 14 feet. Inside the marina the water runs between 5 and 14 feet. Depth at the fuel dock is 5 feet. Just east of the harbour entrance is a basin created by stone breakwaters, which is what makes this a usable stop when the lake is up.

The marina takes boats up to 60 feet long and 20 feet of beam. Seasonal slips run 20 to 40 feet.

Fishing at Jordan Harbour

The harbour is a well-used spot for anglers, and the calm water inside the breakwaters fishes differently from the open lake.

  • What is around: bass, perch, trout and salmon are all common in this part of Lake Ontario.

  • Where people fish: the stone breakwaters and the dock edges hold fish.

  • Licensing: check current Ontario fishing regulations and licence requirements before you go. They change.

Launching without incident

  • Check the trailer, the boat and your safety gear before you back down. The ramp is not the place to discover a flat bearing.

  • Rig lines and fenders before you are in the water, not after.

  • Watch the forecast. Lake Ontario can go from flat to uncomfortable inside an hour.

  • Park in the marked areas and keep the ramp apron clear for the next boat.
